The official game rules for HoopFest. Younger divisions (U10 to U14) play 3v3 half court; U16, U18 and 18+ play 5v5.
5v5 Game Rules
General Game Rules
Games will be 2 x 20-minute run-time halves using modified FIBA rules
Teams only need a minimum of 5 players to start the game
Penalty is at 8 team fouls each half
The last 2 minutes of the 2nd half will be stop time unless the score is 20+ points.
Teams have 2 Time-outs per half (time-outs from 1st half do not carry over)
OVERTIME
1st Overtime = 2 minutes + 1 time out/team + fouls carry over
2nd Overtime = first to score and starts with a jump ball + 1 time out/team + fouls carry over
PLAYOFFS ONLY: all overtimes are 2 minutes + 1 time out/team + fouls carry over
The default time for games is 10 minutes
Shot clocks will be used
Home Team is white
Visiting Team is dark
3v3 Game Rules
Game Format: 3v3 half court, up to 5 players per team (3 on court). Game is 20 minutes running time or first to 21 points.
Scoring: Inside arc = 2 point, Outside arc = 3 points, Free throws = 1 point.
Start of Play: Coin toss for possession. Check ball at top of arc to start.
After Score: Defensive team gains possession and must clear ball beyond arc.
Check Ball: Used to restart play after stoppages at top of arc.
Change of possesion (ie steal, reb): Must clear ball beyond arc.
Shot Clock: 12 seconds (or referee counts last 5 seconds if no clock).
Substitutions: On the fly during dead ball or after made basket.
Team Fouls: 1-6: no shots; 7-9: 2 FTs; 10+: 2 FTs + possession.
Shooting Fouls: Inside arc: 2 FT; Outside arc: 3 FTs.
Overtime: First team to score 2 points wins.
Timeouts: 1 timeout per team (30 seconds, running clock).
Tiebreakers: Record → Head-to-head → Point differential → Points scored.
Sportsmanship: Respect officials. Fighting = ejection.

Pool Play Tiebreakers
Procedures: When two or more teams are tied in win-loss record, the following tiebreak criteria will be applied in order until the tie is broken.
Head-to-head record among tied teams.
Point differential among tied teams (maximum of +20 per game).
Points scored among tied teams.
Points against
Coin flip or random draw conducted by tournament officials.
Point Differential Cap: For all calculations involving point differential, the maximum margin counted per game is +20 points to promote sportsmanship and prevent running up the score
